44 people killed on Polish roads over Christmas weekend

Warsaw - Forty-four people died and 408 were injured over a long Christmas weekend in Poland while police stopped nearly 1,000 drunk drivers, local media reported Tuesday.
There were some 10,000 police officers patrolling roads and checking random drivers for speed and sobriety.
Police said they stopped 990 drunk drivers between Friday and Monday, a long weekend in which many travelled to visit relatives. There were 301 accidents.
