Spanish former minister investigated for corruption
Dec 28, 2011, 15:35 GMT
Madrid - Former Spanish transport minister and government spokesman Jose Blanco is to be investigated for corruption, the supreme court in Madrid announced Wednesday.
The socialist politician is accused of nepotism and accepting bribes, the court said.
A Galician businessman imprisoned at the end of May accused Blanco in August of having accepted a 200,000-euro (260,000-dollar) payment via a cousin to intercede in the awarding of a pharmaceutical contract.
Blanco, who as deputy secretary general is still number two in the Socialist party (PSOE), denies the accusations.
After the party's resounding ejection from government in November elections, Blanco announced that he would not seek reelection to the party leadership at a conference in February.
