Dec 31, 2011, 12:09 GMT
Oberstdorf, Germany - Tom Hilde fractured a vertebra when he crashed during the Four Hills opener and will be sidelined for the remaining events, Norwegian ski-jumping sports director Clas Brede Braathen said on Saturday.
Braathen said that Hilde was undergoing examinations in a hospital near the Oberstdorf venue but that he probably won't have to undergo surgery.
Hilde crashed head-on into the snow after landing his second jump at the Four Hills opener in Oberstdorf on Friday. The 24-year-old was considered a dark horse for for the title at the prestigious event which runs until January 6.
'Just talked with a specialist. He was positive. Let's wait and see,' Hilde said on his Twitter account Saturday.
