Jan 1, 2012, 11:29 GMT
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany - Norwegian ski-jumper Tom Hilde is out for the season after fracturing a vertebra in a crash during the Four Hills opener.
'As it stands now I won't be competing any more this winter,' Hilde told a news conference on Sunday. 'I have no pain but I can feel that something is wrong with my back.'
Hilde, 24, crashed head-on into the snow after landing his second jump at the Four Hills opener in Oberstdorf on Friday.
He was released from hospital on Saturday and joined his team-mates for New Year's Day celebrations in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where the second competition was scheduled for later Sunday.
