Bayern Munich in discussions with Gazprom
Jan 3, 2012, 12:32 GMT
Berlin - German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich have confirmed that they are in discussion with energy company Gazprom with a view towards entering into a sponsorship agreement.
The Russian company currently sponsor Bayern rivals Schalke 04, but in a report made available on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's publication in Sport Bild Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness confirmed that discussions are taking place.
'If we co-operate with Gazprom, it will not be instead of Schalke, it will be us and Schalke. That is something that I have told my friend Clemens Toennies (Schalke official),' Hoeness is quoted as saying.
Sport Bild said that Gazprom vice-chairman and CEO Alexei Miller had a meeting with Hoeness and Bayern official Karl-Heinz Rummenigge shortly before Christmas.
Hoeness said that it was important that he was not interested in taking millions away from Schalke. 'It would never be a condition that we are the only ones.'
