Norway beat local favourites Germany in nordic combined
Jan 7, 2012, 18:29 GMT
Oberstdorf, Germany - Norway just edged out the home favourites Germany in a World Cup 4 x 5km Nordic combined relay race in Oberstdorf on Saturday.
Third place went to Austria, who were leading the race shortly from the finishing line, but their final skier Bernhard Gruber fell to the ground allowing his side no better than third place.
Germany's final athlete Timo Edelmann came agonizingly close to edging out Joergen Graabak on the last leg, but in the end was left short of a few centimetres.
'I thought until the very end that I would do it,' an exhausted Edelmann said at the end.
Austria were leading after the jumping portion, followed by Norway and Germany.
