Hamburg put Xhaka plans on hold
Jan 11, 2012, 13:27 GMT
Marbella, Spain - Bundesliga club SV Hamburg have accepted they won't be able to sign Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka from Basel this winter but still hope for a signing at the end of the season.
'I am planning without him,' said Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink at the squad's training camp in Marbella, Spain on Wednesday.
Fink, who joined Hamburg from Basel in October, has made no secret he wants to sign the 19-year-old midfielder, but the German side has had an offer of a reported 7 million euros (8.9 million dollars) turned down by Basel.
Hamburg are training at the same grounds in Marbella as Basel, who reports say want to keep the young Swiss international for the rest of the season now that they have reached the knock-out stage of the Champions League.
