Report: Former Germany goalkeeper Adler to join SV Hamburg
Jan 25, 2012, 11:06 GMT
Hamburg - Former Germany goalkeeper Rene Adler has agreed to join SV Hamburg from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in summer, the Sport Bild weekly reported on Wednesday.
The report said that the free transfer of Adler, whose Leverkusen contract expires in summer, is to be announced in the near future.
But Sport Bild also quoted Hamburg sports director Frank Arnesen as saying that 'a contract with Adler has so far not been signed.'
Adler, 27, lost his place as Germany number one to Manuel Neuer when he missed the 2010 World Cup with a rib fracture. Adler has not played at all since knee surgery last summer, with youngster Bernd Leno the new Leverkusen number one and Adler not even in the squad at last weekend's league restart from the winter break.
Hamburg's number one is 32-year-old Jaroslav Drobny, who has improved after a mediocre start at the northern German club fighting relegation, but is also bothered by nagging knee problems.
Leverkusen managing director Wolfgang Holzhaeuser said they have not been approached over an immediate transfer of Adler but that they were ready for talks.
