Feb 1, 2012, 13:06 GMT
Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Spanish veteran Raul Gonzalez and captain Benedikt Hoewedes returned to training at Schalke on Wednesday amid hopes they can also play in Saturday's Bundesliga match against Mainz.
The forward Raul has overcome a thigh muscle problem and Hoewedes was wearing a protective mask in his return 10 days after suffering a triple cheekbone fracture. Both were sidelined in the weekend's 4-1 victory at Cologne.
Schalke are third in the league, tied on 40 points with leaders Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
