Germany calls for international contact group on Syria
Feb 5, 2012, 14:36 GMT
Munich - German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Sunday called for the establishment of an international contact group to help end the bloodshed in Syria.
Turkey and the Arab League should play a key role in such a body, Westerwelle told reporters during an international security conference in Munich, Germany.
Westerwelle, speaking after the failure of the United Nations to adopt a resolution on Syria, said such a contact group would add a 'new dynamic' to efforts aimed at finding a solution to the Syria crisis.
He first made the proposal for a body similar to the Libya contact group last year.
