France recalls ambassador to Syria

Paris - France has recalled its ambassador to Syria for consultations, the foreign ministry in Paris announced Tuesday.
Spokesman Bernard Valero said Ambassador Eric Chevallier had been recalled over the 'aggravation of the repression led by the regime in Damascus against the population.'
Several other Western and Arab states, including the United States, Britain, Italy and Tunisia have recalled their ambassadors to Syria in recent days.
