Icicle kills woman in Serbian capital
Feb 7, 2012, 12:20 GMT
Belgrade - A large icicle fell from a building and killed a woman on a sidewalk Tuesday in Belgrade Tuesday, police and hospital sources confirmed.
The woman, aged around 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, emergency services spokeswoman Nada Macura said. The 4-kilo icicle had fallen from the roof of a 12-story building.
The Serbian capital has been unable to cope with the almost continuous snowfall that began last week.
Volunteers were called to help clean ice off the pavements, while firefighters were deployed to clear dangerous icicles, but could not cover the entire city.
