Sauerkraut blocks German autobahn
Feb 7, 2012, 13:00 GMT
Berlin - A truck crashing on an icy German motorway Tuesday spilt packages of German speciality sauerkraut - pickled cabbage - across the road, creating a 10-kilometre tailback in commuter traffic, police said.
The truck spilled hundreds of 400-gram sachets of the delicacy - many of which burst and quickly froze, glazing the road at Freiberg, some 40 kilometres north of Frankfurt.
The crash created a massive, 10-kilometre tailback in commuter traffic until roadworkers managed to melt the debris by sprinkling salt on it.
One woman was slightly injured in the crash, which involved a second truck and a car, police said.
