Second division Fuerth into German cup semis
Feb 8, 2012, 20:01 GMT
Berlin - Second division club Greuther Fuerth continued their strong run in the German cup with a 1-0 victory at 10-man Hoffenheim on Wednesday for a place in the semi-finals.
Canadian forward Olivier Occean grabbed the winner from short range after rounding two defenders shortly before half-time. Hoffenheim had by then lost defender Marvin Compper on a red card for hitting Stephan Fuerstner in the face.
Hoffenheim were the second Bundesliga club to lose at home against Fuerth, who rank fourth in the second division and want to get into the top flight after several near misses. Fuerth won 1-0 in Nuremberg in the previous round and are yet to concede a goal in four cup games.
Bundesliga champions and leaders Borussia Dortmund reached the semis on Tuesday 4-0 at fourth division Holstein Kiel.
Bayern Munich were at VfB Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin played Borussia Moenchengladbach in the other games Wednesday. The semi-finals are March 20 and 21, the Berlin final on May 12.
