Major France-Ireland rugby game cancelled because of weather
Feb 11, 2012, 20:54 GMT
Paris - A Six Nations rugby game between France and Ireland was called off Saturday at the last minute after the referee declared the pitch at Stade de France stadium was frozen.
Referee Dave Pearson announced his decision five minutes before the scheduled start of the game at 2000 GMT. An announcement was then made to the 79,000 spectators in the stadium, who booed and whistled at the decision.
Temperatures at the stadium hovered around minus-4 degrees Celsius. The pitch had been covered and heated for the past week.
No new date for the game has been announced.
The game was the second in the tournament for both sides since the start of the tournament last weekend.
