Hertha captain says coach Skibbe sacked after five games
Feb 12, 2012, 11:31 GMT
Berlin - Hertha Berlin have sacked coach Michael Skibbe after his first five games in charge ended in defeats, the club's captain said Sunday.
Andre Mijatovic said the players were told of Skibbe's dismissal before training.
Skibbe, 46, was appointed in the winter break to replace Markus Babbel, who was sacked after differences with manager Michael Preetz.
Hertha had paid Turkish club Eskisehirspor a fee to release Skibbe who had signed a contract until 2014.
Hertha were beaten 5-0 at VfB Stuttgart Saturday and have slipped to fourth from bottom in the Bundesliga. Under Skibbe the team has lost all four league games this year and been knocked out of the German Cup.
