Italian court issues 16-year sentences in asbestos trial

Rome - A court in Italy on Monday sentenced a Swiss billionaire and a Belgian baron to 16 years in prison in connection with the asbestos-poisoning deaths of hundreds of people.
The two accused - Swiss Stephan Schmidheiny, the former owner of the Eternit construction firm, and Jean-Louis Marie Ghislain de Cartier de Marchienne, a top shareholder from Belgium - were not in the Turin court for the sentencing.
