Polish pope museum cannot open in time for Euro 2012
Feb 13, 2012, 14:12 GMT
Warsaw - A Polish museum on former pope John Paul II will not be ready in time for this year's Euro 2012 football championship, when thousands of tourists are expected in the capital Warsaw, media reported Monday.
The Warsaw museum for the former Polish pope, who died in 2005, was set to open in time for the start of Euro 2012 on June 8, but the building won't be finished for at least another year due to a lack of funding, wrote Rzeczpospolita daily, quoting officials.
Museum officials were working to secure the 20 million zloty (6.2 million dollars) necessary to complete the work, of which 20 per cent was to come from the Warsaw Archdiocese and the rest from the state budget.
Poland and co-host Ukraine have experienced an array of delays in building roads, stadiums and other infrastructure needed to host the championship.
