Lowly Gijon bring in former Spain boss Clemente
Feb 13, 2012, 22:39 GMT
Madrid - Troubled Spanish Liga club Sporting Gijon announced late on Monday the signing of former Spain manager Javier Clemente.
Clemente, 61, will take over on Tuesday as coach from Inaki Tejada, who lasted only two games after taking over from Manolo Preciado.
Tejada managed to pick up just one point in those two games, and on Sunday suffered a 4-0 slaughter at Valencia.
Clemente has been out of contract since being sacked as the national manager of Cameroon last year. He has also been manager of Serbia, as well as Spain, in addition to Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Betis, Real Sociedad, Olympique Marseille, Tenerife, Murcia and Valladolid.
Gijon are second from bottom in La Liga with just 19 points.
