Feb 14, 2012, 16:11 GMT
Belgrade - President Boris Tadic on Tuesday honoured Serbia's superstar tennis player Novak Djokovic with the country's top medal.
The world's top tennis player, Djokovic was awarded the Karadjordje's Star medal for his promotion of Serbia, Tadic's office said.
'He is Serbia's best ambassador to the world,' Tadic said on his website. The Karadjordje medal is Serbia's highest honour to an individual or an institution.
Djokovic was decorated for the occasion of the Serbian Statehood Day, which falls on Wednesday.
Firmly seated atop the ATP rankings, Djokovic has become the undisputed national hero after leading his country to its first-ever Davis Cup title in 2010 and winning four of the last five Grand Slam tournaments.
