Mertesacker joins Germany injury list ahead of France match
Feb 14, 2012, 20:14 GMT
Berlin - Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is expected to be out for a month and is the latest German international to be sidelined ahead of Germany's friendly later this month against France.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said Tuesday Mertesacker has returned to Germany for treatment on his ankle, which he injured Saturday against Sunderland.
Germany coach Joachim Loew has now lost four players to injury, with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Lukas Podolski and Mario Goetze also out for the February 29 game against France in Bremen.
Wenger said Arsenal, who are at AC Milan in the Champions League Wednesday, expect to be without Mertesacker for a month.
'He had a reconstruction of his ankle in Germany before he joined us,' Wenger said. 'And the scan didn't look to positive yesterday.'
