Juventus miss chance to go back on top after draw at Parma
By Alberto Cagliano Feb 15, 2012, 19:30 GMT
Rome - Juventus stuttered in a 0-0 draw at Parma on Wednesday, remaining one point behind Serie A leaders AC Milan as they played the first of two games they have in hand.
Massive pressure, ball dominance and several scoring chances were not enough for Juve against the defence-geared hosts, who held the Turin giants to their 10th draw from 22 unbeaten games.
International defender Giorgio Chiellini missed Juve's first chance by nodding a free-kick from Andrea Pirlo against the post.
Home goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini was untroubled by efforts from an indifferent Mirko Vucinic, who lacked either grit or precision in his four scoring occasions.
Alessandro Matri also missed a header and botched a break into the box, while Parma had two occasions from breaks by Sebastian Giovinco, a fast, diminutive forward on loan from Juventus.
After the break, coach Antonio Conte brought on Emanuele Giaccherini for a lacklustre Marcelo Estigarribia, but the fast winger also squandered his only chance firing onto Pavarini as efforts from Claudio Marchisio and Pirlo also went begging.
'We controlled the game and it was a pity not to win it,' Conte said. 'If you dominate a game like this you must win it.'
Juve have another game in hand to be played at Bologna on March 7.
Atalanta beat Genoa 1-0 in another rescheduled game. A total of seven games were rescheduled due to bad weather since early February.
