Prosecutor calls for German President Wulff's immunity to be lifted
Feb 16, 2012, 19:53 GMT
Hanover - The public prosecutor in Hanover Thursday called for lifting of the immunity from prosecution of German President Christian Wulff.
Parliament now has to decide whether criminal proceedings against Wulff can be carried out.
Wulff, a conservative, has rejected calls to resign since mid-December, when allegations were first made of taking loans from wealthy friends while he was premier of Lower Saxony state.
Last week, prosecutors said they were studying new allegations that Wulff may have received a free holiday from a businessman in 2007 while he was a regional leader.
The president has already apologized for failing in 2010 to disclose that he borrowed money from the wife of another rich friend to buy a home.
