Hiddink takes charge of Russian club Anzhi
Feb 17, 2012, 14:53 GMT
Moscow - Guus Hiddink has been appointed coach of big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, the club reported on its website Friday.
The 65-year-old Dutch coach had been out of work since November after failing to qualify for Euro 2012 with Turkey.
'I am glad to have been given this opportunity,' Hiddink, a former coach of the Russian national team, told the club's website.
'What is especially important to me is that the club has major plans to develop football in the country.'
Anzhi have invested heavily under billionaire Suleiman Kerimov, signing top-name players in Samuel Eto'o, Roberto Carlos and Yuri Zhirkov.
Hiddink succeeds Yuri Krasnozhan, who was sacked after just over a month in the job.
