Coach Reja reportedly close to quitting Lazio
Feb 22, 2012, 14:45 GMT
Rome - Coach Edy Reja on Wednesday backtracked on his decision not to lead Lazio in a game in Spain, but still appeared set on leaving the Serie A side.
The Repubblica daily said on its website on Wednesday that Reja, 66, had an animated meeting with club president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare following a 5-1 league defeat at Palermo on Sunday.
Reja appeared set on resigning and not being with the team in Spain, where they play a difficult round of 32 second-leg game in the Europa League against Atletico Madrid on Thursday. The Spanish side won the first leg 3-1 in Rome last week.
It appears that Lotito talked the coach into going to Spain for what is likely to be his last game at the helm of the Rome club, who are currently fourth in the Serie A.
Reja's relationship with Lazio is said to have worsened in recent weeks over the lack of new arrivals in the January transfer window.
