Real Madrid's Benzema out for three weeks
Feb 22, 2012, 19:13 GMT
Madrid - Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will be out of action for around three weeks after tearing a muscle in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, the Spanish club said Wednesday.
Benzema, 24, limped out of the last-16 game after just 12 minutes, to be replaced by Gonzalo Higuain. He has been diagnosed with an adductor muscle tear in his right thigh.
In addition to missing several of Real's games, the French striker will miss the Germany-France friendly match scheduled for February 29.
Benzema joined Real from Lyon in 2009 but struggled to live up to expectations in his first two years in Madrid. However, he has been in excellent form this season, which has led to Higuain usually being confined to the substitutes' bench.
