Garlic could help cut risk of Fallopian tube cancer

Potsdam, Germany - Women who eat large quantities of garlic and onions are possibly less likely to contract Fallopian tube cancer, according to the results of a Europe-wide study evaluated by the German Institute for Food Research in Potsdam near Berlin.
Not only garlic and onions but also leek and chives contain a variety of substances, such as organic sulphur compounds, thought to have an anti-cancer effect, according to the results.
There is as yet no certainty about the link. 'Further long-term studies are necessary,' says Heiner Boeing, a professor at the institute.
But he is clear that the consumption of fruit and vegetables in quantity helps to cut the risk of other cancers and heart disease.
The EPIC Study aims to probe the link between the incidence of cancer and eating behaviour.
Data relating to around 325,000 women from 10 countries were evaluated for the study.
