Denmark says poultry to be kept indoors after bird flu in Germany
Dec 17, 2007, 17:46 GMT
Copenhagen - Danish authorities Monday said owners of poultry should keep the birds indoors or under protective nets after outbreaks of bird flu in Germany and Poland.
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration said the measures were precautionary after tests in Germany indicated that some birds were infected with the H5N1 virus that can also harm humans.
Denmark was one of several European countries that in 2006 reported cases of the virus, mainly in wild fowl but there was also a find among birds kept in a backyard holding.
