Men more susceptible to tuberculosis than women

Berlin - Men in Germany contract tuberculosis more often than women, according to the Berlin-based Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the central federal institution responsible for disease control and prevention.
It said the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants was 7.8 for men and 5.3 for women.
Infection is more frequent after 40 years of age, the RKI noted, with most tuberculosis cases among people over 69. It said the disease also occurred relatively often among immigrants aged 25 to 29.
Tuberculosis is on the decline in Germany: In 2006 there were 6.6 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 7.4 the year before.
