Night kidney transplants riskier than daytime operations
Jul 15, 2008, 15:19 GMT
Bonn, Germany - Kidney transplants at night are twice as likely to lead to a corrective follow-up operation as those in the daytime, a team of German scientists said Tuesday after a study.
Guido Fechner and Stefan Mueller, who surveyed 260 operations, said there were complications with 16 per cent of 'night kidneys' but only 6 per cent of daytime operations. They said the reason was probably that surgeons were more alert and careful by day.
