New Zealand records fourth swine-flu death
Jul 8, 2009, 1:13 GMT
Wellington - Four people have now died of swine flu in New Zealand, chief coroner Neil MacLean reported Wednesday.
The fourth victim was a 46-year-old man from Blenheim with pre- existing health problems including obesity, who had not seen a doctor for some time. He died at home on July 1.
The Health Ministry said Tuesday that 1,195 cases of influenza A(H1N1) have been confirmed in New Zealand, and 53 people were hospitalized including 12 patients in intensive care.
The new flu is a mild illness for most people who have recovered readily at home without needing medical treatment, the ministry said.
