Taiwan president receives swine-flu shot
Nov 16, 2009, 12:51 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou Monday received a home-made swine flu vaccine in a bid to alleviate concerns over the effectiveness of the locally produced vaccine.
Ma received the vaccine produced by Adimmune Corp, a Taiwan bio-tech organization, who recently was green-lighted by local health authorities to produce the vaccine. However, some health experts in Taiwan have questioned its effectiveness.
Taiwan Monday also began its mass immunization programme for students in 24 cities and counties. Under the plan, most of the 23 million people in Taiwan are expected to get vaccinated by March 2010.
Meanwhile, Taiwan reported its 29th H1N1-related death, a 40-year-old man, who died on Sunday.
