Hong Kong to crack down on primary school drugs' epidemic

Hong Kong - The Hong Kong government said Wednesday it would step up drug education in primary schools after an official survey found children as young as 8 are abusing illegal substances.
Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong told legislators at a special hearing that drug education would be introduced in lower primary school classes.
He also said that a voluntary drug-testing programme introduced in secondary schools in the rural Tai Po district had been successful and may be extended to other areas.
A government survey of more than 150,000 pupils published in February found that children in nearly nine out of 10 primary schools had experimented with drugs.
