Dancing cow and chicken cheer vegan Bill in Philippines
Nov 10, 2010, 8:16 GMT
Manila - Animal rights activists on Wednesday dressed as a cow and a chicken to welcome former US president Bill Clinton to the Philippines and celebrate his vegan lifestyle.
The activists from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals braved heavy rains and danced outside the Manila Hotel where Clinton was scheduled to speak at a forum on globalization.
They carried placards that read, 'Be like Bill: Grill Veggies Not Meat' and 'Chicks Love Slim Vegan Bill.'
Jason Baker, leader of the group, said Clinton shed 11 kilograms after he started a vegan diet in order to lose weight in time for his daughter's wedding on July 31.
'Bill Clinton is promoting healthy living and we commend him for leading by example,' he said. 'Going vegetarian is the best thing you can do for your health, the animals and the earth.'
Clinton arrived in Manila earlier in the day amid very tight security and was scheduled to depart Thursday.
