World Medical Association gets Australian head

Sydney - Mukesh Haikerwal, former president of the Australian Medical Association, was Thursday named head of the World Medical Association (WMA).
The WMA, currently meeting in Sydney, links national medical associations in 95 countries.
Haikerwal, born in India to Indian-born parents, was brought up in Britain and emigrated to Australia in 1990.
Three years ago he spent two months in hospital after being assaulted by five youths in a public park in Melbourne.
