Suspected case of bird flu reported in Chinese man
Dec 31, 2011, 2:16 GMT
Beijing - A suspected human case of avian flu has been reported in southern China, with the patient in critical condition in Shenzhen city near Hong Kong, officials said.
The 39-year-old man suffering from severe pneumonia had tested positive for the H5N1, the Health Ministry confirmed late Friday.
The ministry's centre for health protection said the man did not travel or have direct contact with live poultry in the month before he became ill.
Shipments of live chickens from the mainland to Hong Kong were suspended earlier this month after a dead bird tested positive for the virus.
