Madhya Pradesh by-elections peaceful
Dec 12, 2007, 17:55 GMT
Bhopal, Dec 12 (IANS) About 55 to 60 percent votes were polled in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone Lok Sabha constituency while the Sanwer assembly seat recorded 65 percent polling in the by-elections Wednesday with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fighting to retain both seats.
'The polling in both constituencies passed off peacefully,' Chief Electoral Officer J.S. Mathur told IANS. Counting of votes will take place Saturday, he said.
Senior BJP leader Krishna Murari Moghe is pitted against Arun Yadav of the Congress in Khargone. In Sanwer, the main fight is between Santosh Malviya of the BJP and Tulsi Siklwat of the Congress.
The by-polls are seen as an indicator of the trend ahead of the state assembly elections in 2008.
