Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Dec 13 (IANS) In a bizarre incident, a general manager of a sugar factory in Punjab shot dead his own boss and the president of the company Thursday.
The shootout took place inside the meeting room of the factory near Dasuya town, 45 km from here, when general manager Gurkirpal Singh Kahlon fired at Abijit Singh Jaspal from close range after an altercation.
Jaspal was rushed to the nearby civil hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Kahlon fired five rounds from his 9 mm pistol of which two rounds hit Jaspal on his chest while a third one pierced his temple, company officials said.
Jaspal had objected to the quality of the sugarcane being processed in the factory under Kahlon's supervision.
Police officials investigating the crime said the indications were that Kahlon had pre-planned the killing as both had picked up fights earlier also.
Kahlon is absconding after the incident. The sugar factory belongs to the family of liquor baron Ponty Chadha.
