Mumbai, Dec 14 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil will release a commemorative stamp on former union minister and Maharashtra chief minister Shankrrao Bhaurao Chavan in New Delhi Monday.
Chavan was the chief minister of the state during the turbulent days of National Emergency between 1975-77. He had a second term in office between March 1986 and June 1988.
Chavan, a close confidant of the Nehru-Gandhi family, later handled several portfolios, including defence, finance and home as a union minister.
The veteran Congress leader died at the age of 83 in February 2004 after a prolonged illness.
Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and other dignitaries are expected to be present at the Monday's stamp releasing function at Rashtrapati Bhavan, according to an official announcement here.
