New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil gave away the national energy conservation awards to 38 industrial and commercial units from 19 industry sectors ranging from aluminium to cement to chemicals to food processing.
The awards were distributed at a ceremony held by the union power ministry at Vigyan Bhawan here to mark the national energy conservation day Friday.
Children who won the national painting competition on energy conservation and energy efficiency also received prizes on this occasion.
'On an aggregated basis, the 38 industrial units which bagged this year's national energy conservation awards invested Rs.29 billion to implement energy conservation measures and achieved an annual monetary savings of Rs.18 billion. That means a payback period of 19 months and an avoided thermal generation capacity of 308 MW,' an official statement said.
