Pranab meets Jyoti Basu
Dec 16, 2007, 15:51 GMT
Kolkata, Dec 16 (IANS) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee met veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Joyti Basu at the latter's residence here Sunday evening.
The meeting between the two lasted 20 minutes. Both Mukherjee and Basu refused to divulge any details about what they had discussed.
'It was a courtesy meeting between the two leaders. Mukherjee enquired about Basu's health as he had sustained a rib bone fracture after falling in the bathroom last month,' Basu's personal assistant Joy Krishna Ghosh told IANS.
Mukherjee later brushed aside reports that the Left parties had threatened to withdraw their support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre if it moved to operationalise the India-US nuclear deal.
