Pakistan tests a short-range 'Hatf-II Abdali' missile
Feb 19, 2006, 14:18 GMT
Islamabad - Pakistan carried out 'a successful' test of a surface-to-surface nuclear-capable missile with 200-kilometre range in undisclosed location on Sunday.
A statement issued by Pakistan's Inter-Service Public Relation said the short range, Hatf-II Abdali, was an 'indigenously developed' short-range ballistic missile, which could carry nuclear and other types of warheads.
According to last year's agreement with neighbouring India, it said a prior notification of the test had been given to New Delhi.
The two arch-rivals, Indian and Pakistan, have been routinely carrying out missile tests since the countries conducted tit-for-tat nuclear tests in May 1998.
The two South Asian neighbours, who have fought three wars, have been engaged in a peace process since February 2004 and have taken several steps toward building mutual trust.
