Israel launches satellite to observe Iran
Apr 25, 2006, 18:57 GMT
Tel Aviv - Israel successfully launched Tuesday an espionage satellite to observe in particular Iran's nuclear programme.
Eros B was launched in Siberia, Israeli media reported. The satellite was an improved version of an Israeli satellite already in orbit.
Eros B is equipped with highly-sensitive cameras which can document the most minute details on the Earth's surface, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported Tuesday, adding, the cameras can record objects only 70 centimetres in size.
Israel hopes to gain more detailed information on Iran's nuclear programme and on its long-range missiles from the satellite as it feels threatened by repeated anti-Israel threats expressed by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
