Singapore, US embark on maritime warfare exercise

Singapore - Singapore and the United States have embarked on a two-week maritime warfare exercise including the firing of missiles against drone targets, the defence ministry said Wednesday.
Codenamed Exercise Carat 2006, the bilateral exercise involves more than 1,500 personnel, 11 ships, a submarine and warplanes and helicopters from the Singapore Armed Forces, the US Navy and US Coast Guard.
The 12th such exercise is pitting the participants in conventional maritime warfare scenarios, the ministry statement said.
Singapore and the US will also practise using command and control systems. The exercise concludes on June 13.
