Saab confirms sale of airborne radar system to Pakistan
Jun 22, 2006, 16:21 GMT
Stockholm - Swedish defence contractor Saab said Thursday it had finalized a deal to sell an airborne surveillance system to Pakistan worth 8.3 billion kronor (1.14 billion dollars).
An agreement was signed last October and some outstanding issues have been ironed out, Saab said, adding it would post the earnings in its second quarter report.
'This is a very important order for Saab,' Saab chief executive Ake Svensson said.
The surveillance system comprises six Saab 2000 turboprop aircraft equipped with an airborne radar system.
The system would be used along with ground-based radars for border security and could also be deployed for search and rescue operations, Saab said.
A third of the original deal was awarded to Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson's division, Ericsson Microwave Systems. However, Saab recently acquired that division.
