Iran hangs kidnappers of foreign tourists
Nov 6, 2006, 13:37 GMT
Teheran - Iran has hanged six members of a rebel group who reportedly kidnapped several foreign tourists, including two German nationals in 2003, the morning daily Etemad reported Monday.
According to the report, the men (who were named only by their first names) were members of a terrorist group led by Sunni militant Abdolmalek Rigi. They were said to have attacked a police car, killing four people, including three policemen, and kidnapping German, Dutch and Irish tourists travelling in Iran.
Two German tourists, Oliver Brueck and David Storm, and Irish national Aidan James Leahy were kidnapped in December 2003 near the south-eastern provincial capital of Zahedan close to the border with Pakistan and Afghanistan and were released after a month-long hostage ordeal.
