Tehran - Ten executions were held in north-east Iran within the last three days, local press reported Monday.
Five convicted rapists were hanged in Golestan province on Sunday and five drug traffickers were executed on Friday in the neighbouring Khorasan Razavi province.
Fars news agency reported that Sunday's execution of the five men, who were convicted of having raped a married couple last year, took place in the provincial town of Minoudasht after the initial death sentence was approved by the Supreme Court.
The five drug traffickers were hanged last Friday for having smuggled 120 kilograms of narcotics into the province.
Under an Iranian Islamic law, murder, rape, armed robbery, drug trafficking of quantities in excess of five kilograms and apostasy are punishable by death.
