Fatah objected to the execution of Saddam. From their own actions they seem to think assasination, torture, and kidnapping are OK, and they are not particularly partial, since they even do it to their own people. A curious set of standards, wouldn't you say?

By the way, where was Fatah when Saddam was massacring Kurds and Shiites? Where was Fatah when Saddam was conducting war against Iran? Boy, they really stood for Islamic unity, didn't they? I;ll bet those Palestinian prisoners really objected to that, huh?

They were taking money from him for their own interests. I'm sure glad Fatah isn't my friend.

Honestly, does anyone buy into this nonsense?

THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE
Once upon a time, in the deep jungle, lived a Lion and a Monkey... One day the Monkey, tired of the Lion always taking the LION'S SHARE, and seeing that such injustice represented a danger to all, demanded JUSTICE... The Lion, yawning and stretching, said, 'You would have to have paws and sharp teeth...' Then the Monkey, who was very clever, devised a plan: He would go to the costume store, and look like a lion...

When the HUNGRY LION saw him, noticing that the new lion wasn't a match for him, and fearing COMPETITION, killed him on the spot --before the indifferent look of the little animals of the jungle... And that's how the Law of the Jungle was re-established one more time... (NOTE: Other monkeys survived him...)

NOTE: The big lion ate the little lion. Competition not alowed, to be expected.

A helpless and pathetic Saddam, growing old in prison would have been powerless. A dead Saddam, hanged by an inept government may well have power. What is sad is that those who killed Saddam may well be in the process of condoning, if not actually orchestrating behaviors exactly like those for which he was executed. The only way to control the factions in Iraq is through the brutal exertion of power. We have simply replaced a Sunni dictator with a Shiite dictatorship. The idea of democracy in Iraq is a joke.

Iraq has been given a chance to start over. The people can make their own future as oposed to the murderous rule of Saddam. It is a shame that so many people are being killed in Iraq, the vast majority are being killed by their own countrymen of the same religious background - not Americans. At least we gave them an opportunity to live in peace... maybe after Saddam they just don't know how.

To all of you that want to see Bush hang, why? Are Iraqis not good enough to experience freedom? Is that just a western idea? Are they too stupid to appreciate freedom? Of course not, shame on you.

Besides the 149 killed by Suddham,180,000 Kurds were killed under Saddham's rule. Graves are found all the time of murdered Iraqi's. The Iraqi man who testified at the trial of Saddham lost his brothers, 22 cousins, and however many more under the rule of Saddham. But G. Bush is stupid? We have had one (1) invasion on American soil, The New York Trade Center. And none since. But G. Bush is stupid?

G. Bush is human just like you and I. He is not perfect. He has not done everything the way I would, or for that matter, the way you would have handled things. In the same vain, I have not heard a single person come up with a plan of just how they would have done anything differently. Instead of criticizing, come up with a plan. I get so tired of hearing people criticize without saying what they would do differently!

note: i would be happy to be at war with the perpetrator for the 9/11 assualt on the u.s. but remember even bush admits that iraq & saddam were not responsible for that attack. so why are we there? to grant them freedom? then why are we not granting freedom to the chinese or anyone else on the planet for that matter?

If you believe that the 8 years of Bill Clinton are to blame for terrorism or 9/11 you are wrong. It has been around and cultivated much longer than those 8 years. Bill Clinton may have missed opportunitys to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden. but were his missed opportunities as blatant as 'BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK WITHIN US'? Let us remember that Osama was recruited and trained by the US CIA to help with the fight in Afganistan against the Soviets. Wasnt a problem while he was 'helping' us, much like our backing of Saddam while he fought with Iran. Things change, times change, let us think of the impact of our foreign policy on the rest of the world that lives in despair while we shop and wonder why buildings are exploding within our borders......

I am not really surprised anymore by the venom of the anti-Bushes. Conveniently they forget Clinton's war against Serbia just to pacify the Muslim. Well, we saw what happened; 9/11. It only reinforced in them the idea that Mohamed sold them more than 13 centuries ago, namely to convert everybody to Islam by the sward. The best we can do is let them kill each other. Then there will be less of them that we have to kill. It still stands true that a moderate Arab is an Arab that ran out of ammunition.

I think the situation is Iraq has increased the opportunities for extremist recruiting for sure. A great focus for would-be terrorists.

The worst thing about post invasion Iraq, I should say I supported the invasion but I think the work done since then has been a disgrace, is that it has accelerated the race for nuclear weapons amongst 'rogue states.'

It has also emboldened other ugly regimes who now know America is bogged down and over-stretched in Iraq.

So I think the net result is a weaker America and a very negative image abroad, including the other Western countries.

Afghanistan is where we should be putting our resources, Iraq as a single democratic state is no longer a credible goal. Plus democracy does not always have pleasing results...Hamas etc.

The Iranian government must be very happy indeed, their old enemy destroyed and their influence in the oil rich southern part of Iraq growing each day. Plus the US and UK now looking to them for help and for them to stop their nuclear programme. A pretty good position I would guess.

Brian, you are correct, in that we are the only nation to use 'the bomb' as you call it. Others (Britain) helped us with it, but it's on our head.

In 1941, we were the most pacifist nation on earth. The result:

We were attacked.

We saved...how many nations, 50 maybe, from the scum of humanity.

You and your liberalis cry foul even if the circumstances require action. Bush, a man who, absolutely does not give a crap if people love him, intervened, correctly. Did Saddam cause 9/11?

No.

Did he aid, (Zarqawi) and shelter(Nidal) finance (Fatah, Hamas)and allow safe passage for terrorists? Yes. Did he conduct a genocidal war with his neighbors? Yes.

We are the United States of America. Our friends live under our protection, are wealthy as the result of our trade with them, and our enemies cower when confronted. We were once a nation of pacifists, but we were attacked. We are slow to anger.

If this is wrong,so be it.

Now, the Liberal wants action in Darfur. My advice: go kiss Bush's ass and beg him. He is a gracious man, and he has his hands full trying to free 50 million people, but he is also generous. Ask nicely, because you cowardly, duplicitous liberals have no goodwill left to trade on.

The world is sitting at the cliff of destruction!

All nations are now preparing for how to deal with killing coming from other nations! No nations in this world can escape from the importing effords of all sorts of destructions and murdering activities!
This disaster has rooted from the philosophy of using HATRED to destroy others!
In summary, the world has to find ways to convince the entire population in this world to abandon HATRED in their mind and come to cooperate with each other to bring peace and love to replace HATRED sown deep and brainwashed their childish minds for so long!
USA alone can never bring peace to any nation! and even with cooperations of all its allies to find ways to bring peace to the hot spots of the world such as Iraq, Afghanistan, etc will be nonesense! why? beause the minds of the local people in these hot spots are brainwashed with HATRED and their main effords are to destroy each other and condemn as much as possible each other as will continue to be seen for an unlimitted amount of time!
The world has entered into a much more risky situation that more killings of all sorts will be 'invented' to treat each other!
No one in this world can bring peace to others while more and more people have headed toward the solution as using HATRED as an killing inspiration to conduct more killings to others! That why we can see al-Qaida, Hamas, Hebolas etc the dedicated murderers of the world have sharpened their minds to create more killings to all other innocents of the world!
Sad world! is the place we are living in!
All Americans must find ways to avoid being in danger with the murderous crazy brainwashed bad guys with all sorts of stupid religious belief in their minds!

I believe you are mistaken to think that we stayed out of wwII for any other reason than economic stability, and selfishness. If our enemies cower before us, how was it that they struck the trade center? It is convenient to say that a murderer deserves what was coming to him, not quite so easy to accept when we have become that murderer. Saddam husseins execution does not make us stronger, it only points out that we are as savage as we were thousands of years ago, after all hammurabis code dictated an eye for an eye. Jim,

You are correct. Not only has Kim Jung commited crimes against humanity, he has the power to do it again (IE fire thousands of short-range missle into and nuke S. Korea) to a much greater degree. That is the difference.

Say you are at a party. A man comes in with a bomb strapped to his chest and says he is going to kill everybody unless he gets what he wants. You negotiate.

Now say this same man walks into the room and yells the same thing. You don't see a bomb or a detonator. You do see one across the room, on the floor, and also you know that he has been talking with people outside of the party that have bombs. Plus he has orchestrated the bombing of other innocent civilians. He starts running towards the bomb. He might already have one that you can't see. What do you do?

Now, granted, Saddam couldn't tell the international community that he didn't have any weapons of mass destruction. Iran would have pounced on him the next day. But at the same time, he had 10 years+ advance warning that we were coming. Do you truly believe that with 10 years+ advance warning his government was not able to figure out a way to get the weapons outside of the country before we go there, if needed? What about the convoys of government trucks leaving Baghdad as the U.S. was coming in? Could the world afford to wait and hope that Saddam would not do what he said he wanted to do, particularly when he kept blocking the U.N. from confirming that he did not have these weapons? He violated the will of the community, it was their mandate (the United Nations), not the United States'.

Why is France on the security council anyways? I can understand China, Russia, the U.K., and the U.S. They all have real military power. If you answer 'because they are nice guys' I would ask you what has France offered in the entire last century towards the greater good of our world?

The fact is America reteated from an interventionist stance after WW1. Laws were enacted to prevent a large standing army. The army and the air arm was trimmed to the bone, and the only arm that was addressed was the Navy, which saved us when war came.

By 1939 America, by popular consent, turned almost totally to diplomacy. Understand that a portion of americans knew what was coming, but popular opinion prevented a proactive stance.(sound familiar?)

Roosevelt engaged the japanese, but capitulated as did his predecessors. The result? A nation that felt they could attack America.

This is the smoking gun in history, illustrating how you can send the wrong message, ignore the facts, and kill millions more than was ever necessary. A proactive stance in 1933, would have given Hitler and Japan pause,a very deliberate build up of the miltary would have contained them. rusia would have not been able to annex Eastern Europe. Imagine the consequences of a Cold War in 1939. Millions saved, our nation lifted out of poverty by investing in a robust military.

Instead, we slept. The situation, that needed an ounce of prevention, required a pound of cure. Millions dead, millions more traumatized by the horrors of war. 6 million jews, 5 million more, mentally ill, gays, and gypsies, 20(?) million Russians...jesus.

Pacifism has killed more people than communicable disease. A ready military and a policy of judicous use has discouraged more aggression than all the talk ever did. History is replete with examples.

Bush did what other Presidents failed to do, confront the problem. Mistakes? Hell yes. Failing to act? Hell no. I'll take Bush's way any day of the week.

Fools,, The idea that democracy actually exists anywhere is stupidity. Sure we can go any where we want in our own countries but we are always under the watchfull eye of our governments. The Hanging of Saddam was a tragedy. Maybe with counselling he would have been a better president or maybe not. Sadly, our Prime minister John Howard, is hearing the rhetoric from Tony Blair and that dwarf G.W. Bush and believing it totally. It puts our lives here in Aussie at risk and has changed the outlook of all Australians. 'viva la Revolution'.

Saddam met his end before testimony could be taken from him regarding his source of chemical weapons used against Kurds. Remember, as Vice President, George Herbert Walker Bush cast three tie breaking votes in Congress, to enable the U.S. to continue making chemical weapons. He supplied these weapons to Saddam, asking only for statistics regarding effectiveness. He too must be takenb to a gallows and hanged for the crimes committed against humanity in which he participated.

We already have 150k troops in Iraq plus (supposedly) 300k trained Iraqis. Declare martial law and order the disarming of the population then use the nearly 1/2 million troops available to go door to door searching each house and shooting anyone on the streets with weapons. This is what was done in Germany and it only took a shortwhile to bring calm to the country. Bush and Rice have mis-managed this war like it was some corporate campaign that just needs more advertising and 'power lunches' to succeed. they are delusional in their calls for democracy in nations that have no history of freedom. Only brute force and a costly price for those countries financing terrorists (Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Sudan) will dampen the Jihadists urge to kill. Declare War on these bastards and unload on them- enough of the Forest Gump President's mumbling about democracy and freedom. As for dopes like 'joe Republican' and 'turtlehead', who call for the hanging of our leaders, better have a bedroll and some reading material handy because when the real war starts (after unfortunately they kill thousands more in their attacks) , the citizens of this country will rise-up and demand these sick traitors be thrown into the internment camps that are already being prepared for traitors and sympathizers- but they will be offered free legal advice from the ACLU leftist traitors who will be sharing their barbed-wire encamptment. We didn't ask for War, but since they want to die so badly for their 72 virgins we are obligated to fullfill their wishes. Iraq doesn't need more US troops, they need a leader with a pair of lead huevos to finish a job started by a spoiled, delusional, corporate frat boy and his piano playing naive Sec of State. The choice isn't 'more troops', it's win or surrender. Program the codes on the triilons of $ worth of useless military weapons and let's finish this war- so we can have some peace. Thanks for letting me 'share' and Happy New Year to all freedom-loving people.

Americans tend to forget that the U.S. as a Republic is only 200 years old, and was created by subjigating over one million indigenous people in the process. Iraq, as well as the other middle eastern states, have existed in more or less their present state for hundreds, and in some cases, thousands of years. What arrogance to think that we as Americans can go in and change entire cultures, civilizations, factions, and long held beliefs, with the promise of democracy. Iraq, like most other middle eastern states, is a Theocracy---they don't, and never will, seperate church from state. Islam is an integral part of their politics and it is utter stupidity to think it will ever be otherwise.

. . .you need to wake up: While our troops are dying by the thousands in Iraq, the Germans are supplying the Iranians with nuclear technology that would tip the balance of power in the Middle East in favor of radical Muslims. The Germans didn't send one single soldier to fight alongside the international coalition forces. The concepts of solidarity, humanity, freedom and democracy mean nothing to the German elite, who instead are busy trying to regain control of Europe and work against the interests of the free world. To the Krauts anything or anyone American, British or French is bad and inimical.
Think of it: In case the U.S. and our allies will need to engage Iran in a war to destroy its nuclear threat, the Germans will have delivered to that country's regime nuclear technology, arms and ammunitions which will be used to kill American and coalition troops.

You're right to judge those who produce weapons that kill Americans as doing wrong. Remember 'the only good red is a dead red.' Funny how this kind of thinking doesn't go away, just moves on to other people who are bothering us today. Why don't you just kill everybody until you are the only one left. Then nobody will bother you.

The America/Al-Queda, Muslim/Christian, them/us mind is an easy way to avoid looking at ourselves. Our behavior is self-defeating. The way we ALL live in the world today, but most especially in the US, is not sustainable for much longer. We are living on ancient sunlight, the sun's energy that was stored in oil - that is millions of years of sunlight. Our food, housing, transportation, heating, entertainment, medicines, education, communication ability and the sheer number of people are all possible now only because of the tremendous amounts of energy used to support it. We will be through all that stored energy soon. Then what will we do? Converting to other ways of living will be traumatic.

Only animals and people who think they will go to heaven when they die, could behave so destructively towards animals, the planet and each other.

It's quite scary when you hear and read the hate-filled German propaganda on TV or in the newspapers criticizing the USA as if our country were inhabited by 300 million criminals when at the same time Jews in Germany are being persecuted and threatened again just like in the early years of the Third Reich.

I believe that Saddam committed several crimes against humanity and deserved to die. But the way they carried out his execution only confirms what has been obvious from the way they conducted his trial.
The current Iraqi government is barbaric and uncivilized and not at all a democracy that can be trusted to respect the rights of the minority.
How can they allow the executioner to be chanting Al Sadr's praises? On top of that, they allowed the video to go public!
Saddam was supposedly executed by a secular government on the basis of a fair trial. Now we know what a sham it is.
Now there is no way the Sunnis will ever accept the current government.
Why is the US still in Iraq? To support a democratic government? If your definition of democratic government = majority rules, even if they enact a law enabling genocide of the minority.
It is just a matter of time before all Sunnis and Christians are all ethnically cleansed, and Iraq forms a united Shiite front w/ Iran. Nice piece of work Mr. GWB!!!
