Israeli cabinet approves country's first-ever Arab-Muslim minister
Jan 28, 2007, 11:05 GMT
Jerusalem - In an historic decision, Israel's cabinet ratified Sunday the nomination of the country's first Arab-Muslim minister, voting to appoint Raleb Majadele Minister Without Portfolio, Israel Radio reported.
Majadele, from the Israel Labour Party, will likely be appointed to another post in an upcoming cabinet reshuffle.
He was nominated for the cabinet by Defence Minister Amir Peretz, the Labour Party leader, to replace Minister of Science, Culture and Sport Ophir Pines-Paz, who resigned at the end of October to protest the addition of the nationalist Yisrael B'teinu party to the coalition.
Yisrael B'teinu leader, Strategic Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman, was the only minister to oppose Majadele's appointment. He and other members of his party had previously criticised Peretz's nomination of Majadele.
Majadele, 53, a businessman from Bakaa al-Garbiya, in northern Israel, first entered the Knesset in 2004. He was reelected in the elections last year and served on several Knesset committees.
He is married and the father of four.

Last time I posted this I got some nonsense about the 'American attention span'
'Unt how zee german one est farr zoooperior!' from the Monsters and Critics resident neo-nazi. So one more time Reinelt, since you have obviously been distracted by something shiny:
So much for 'apartheid' Jimmy Carter.
