Jordan's King Abdullah: US must act now to change image
Mar 2, 2007, 21:43 GMT
Amman - Jordan's King Abdullah II on Friday urged the US to act now to improve its image in the Middle East and called on Israel to abandon its 'fortress' mentality.
Abdullah, speaking ahead of a visit to the US, also warned that the Middle East stood before a crucial turning point.
'Frankly speaking, we are in this region facing two options: peace and stability or chaos,' he told Jordanian state television.
Abdullah is expected to meet with President George W Bush and address the US Congress next week, and sought to defend his ongoing relations the US amid criticism of his visit at home.
'Events here are quite complex and there is a need to move and connect with all parties so as to avoid further sliding and the loss of an opportunity towards a comprehensive peace,' the king said.
Otherwise, he added, the whole region would submerge into catastrophes, chaos and violence.
But Abdullah, one of Washington's major allies in the Middle East, acknowledged that the Iraq war had absorbed US foreign policy attention.
'The US focus now is on Iraq and it is attempting to bail itself out of its complexity and explosive situation there,' he said.
The US remained however, in the eyes of the Jordanian monarch, a major party in Middle Eastern issues, and no party can ignore its crucial influence on Israel.
'It is high time the US exercised this role and prove to peoples of the region its transparency and non-bias to any of the belligerent parties,' Abdullah said.
When Bush visited Amman in December, the king sensed in him a commitment toward settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a two-state solution. He said he sensed the same commitment with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who toured the region twice over the past two months.
The king also accused Israel, with which Jordan sealed a peace treaty in 1994, of ignoring calls for peace talks with the Palestinians.
'Israel is responsible. It has to choose between falling captive to the fortress mentality or living in peace and stability with its neighbours,' Abdullah said.
Abdullah also confirmed that municipal and legislative elections were to be held this year in line with the constitution, responding to criticism that he was planning a postponement.

While the rockets, the suicide bombers and the crazies run rampant...and this guy is a king...
I wish Israel could afford to abandon the fortress mentality. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who want to lay Israel to waste or >BLAM!< ... Whoops, there goes another suicide bomber. Okay, see that's why...
Mr. Bee
'...are a lot of people who want to lay Israel to waste or >BLAM!< ... Whoops, there goes another suicide bomber'.
BLAM!< ... Whoops, there goes another suicide bomber. And at the push of a button whoops there goes the jew State. That's the one everbody is waiting for.

We don't need you -man-or any of your wussy BS-so shut your pie hole and crawl back into your oily satin-sheet bed.
Its not just the Masada mentality that needs to be discarded .. the Zionists also have some very nasty habits .. below is an extract from a lady who no doubt will be called some sort of obscene names by the Zionist rat bags.
==============================================
In 1951, the director general of the Israeli Health Ministry, Dr. Chaim Sheba flew to America and returned with 7 x-ray machines, supplied to him by the American army.
They were to be used in a mass atomic experiment with an entire generation of Sephardi youths to be used as guinea pigs. Every Sephardi child was to be given 35,000 times the maximum dose of x-rays through his head. For doing so, the American government paid the Israeli government 300,000 Israeli liras a year. The entire Health budget was 60,000 liras. The money paid by the Americans is equivalent to billions of dollars today.
To fool the parents of the victims, the children were taken away on 'school trips' and their parents were later told the x-rays were a treatment for the scourge of scalpal ringworm. 6,000 of the children died shortly after their doses were given, the many of the rest developed cancers that killed them over time and are still killing them now. While living, the victims suffered from disorders such as epilepsy, amnesia, Alzheimer's disease, chronic headaches and psychosis.
Yes, that is the subject of the documentary in cold terms. It is another matter to see the victims on the screen. ie. To watch the Moroccan lady describe what getting 35,000 times the dose of allowable x-rays in her head feels like.
'I screamed make the headache go away. Make the headache go away. Make the headache go away. But it never went away.'
